To: the Baroness von Poser
Vienna, 1814

Anderson v1 pg483 - letter #517

Since, highly honored Baroness, I am best able to express myself in my mother tongue, I am replying in German two-year lines which for their lavish praise I do not at all deserve. –– Although on account of my personality In shall sink considerably in your estimation of me, which in any case is exaggerated and unduly exalted, yet it will always give me pleasure to come to you or even, if you desire it, to see you in my home –– With the greatest pleasure I call myself your devoted servant
